VI. WHERE CAN A SURVIVOR SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION?
Whether you choose to file a report, it is important that you obtain medical treatment following a sexual assault. It is important that you be examined for any possible injuries, visible or not visible. Also a hospital exam to collect evidence for potential criminal prosecution should be done as soon as possible after an assault. This exam can only be performed at a hospital emergency room. Having the exam keeps your options open. If a police report is filed, there should be no cost to you for services you receive at the emergency room.
